ABOUT US

Revolutionizing the Biofuel Industry

Imagine tomorrow – and tomorrow’s tomorrow. And the tomorrow after that. What we do today affects them all. Since Blue Biofuels was founded, we’ve envisioned a different future – for people and for the planet – than the one we’re facing now. And the one we’re creating is fueled by plants.

Our team developed and patented an innovative, groundbreaking technology that can convert virtually any plant material – such as king grass and agricultural waste – into fuels for transportation and aviation.

To us, this isn’t just a biofuel boom; it’s a biofuel revolution.

Our cellulose-to-sugar (CTS) process creates biofuel from abundantly available plant materials more efficiently and with the environment in mind.

Since we use abundant feedstocks and recyclable catalysts, we’re uniquely positioned to meet the needs of the growing biofuel demand by becoming the lowest-cost producer of carbon-friendly ethanol and sustainable aviation fuel, allowing us to increase their use in the fuel supply significantly beyond what is made from corn today.

These aren’t just 100% renewable, non-toxic options; they’re our only long-term options to combat climate change and reduce dependence on both fossil fuels and food-based crops.

And while the addition of biofuel to the industry may seem like one piece of a much larger puzzle, nature shows us that there is no ripple, no flutter, no shift that’s too small to reshape the world — and reimagine the tomorrows of transportation.

OUR VISION

To revolutionize the
biofuel industry.

How We’re Changing the Biofuel Industry

Blue Biofuels, a cleantech company based in South Florida, aims to revolutionize the biofuel industry. Led by a knowledgeable team with a proven track record, Blue Biofuels delivers a scalable, highly efficient and low-cost technology that converts plant materials into biofuel for transportation and aviation.

As demand increases for sustainable fuel options, our patented cellulose-to-sugar (CTS) process makes energy from abundant, renewable resources, offering a pathway to climate-friendly biofuels like ethanol and sustainable aviation fuel.

For us, that means keeping cars on the road and planes in the sky – while keeping the trees green and the air clean.

Because we can use virtually any feedstock, Blue Biofuels’ technology can exist anywhere in the world.

And ultimately, using just plant-based materials, we could produce large-scale quantities of biofuel using our CTS process to provide an option that’s healthier for people and the planet.

Competitiveness of our Technology

The Blue Biofuels’ patented, cutting-edge CTS technology is expected to dramatically reduce ethanol production costs through a simple, efficient process using low-cost, abundant feedstock.

Most ethanol producers require the isolation of natural sugars and starches from corn kernels to use as an input to the fermentation process.

We create soluble sugars from the cellulose in plants. Unlike other cellulosic conversion processes, we use a mechanical-chemical system with an inexpensive catalyst to break cellulose down so that it can more easily be fermented into biofuels.

With this approach, we expect our biofuel to be cost-competitive and extremely climate-friendly due to its low carbon footprint.

Patents and Trademarks

We’ve been able to create such a competitive product because our company has a strong Intellectual Property portfolio consisting of patents, patent license agreements, patents pending, trademarks, proprietary know-how and trade secrets.

Blue Biofuels is constantly updating and expanding its patent filings as well as documenting and establishing new and unique pathways for its existing technologies.

The Future of Fuel

Blue Biofuels takes biofuel production to the next level — moving away from reliance on corn as a main feedstock for bioethanol.

Instead, we create biofuel from inexpensive, abundant feedstocks and a carbon-friendly patented process to create advanced, second-generation biofuel.

Second-generation biofuels, however, offer additional benefits:

  • Feedstocks are available in greater quantities because we use the entire plant and not just the kernel,
  • Prices of these feedstocks tend to be much less than conventional biofuels sources,
  • And better environmental impacts and performance.

As we grow our production capabilities, we would eventually acquire and/or build new ethanol production facilities that we could retrofit with our CTS process on the frontend and the Vertimass Process on the backend allowing us to convert our feedstock directly into bioethanol and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

Development Partners

Blue Biofuels has licensed Vertimass’ technology, enabling production of renewable jet fuel as well as Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, and Xylenes (BTEX), building blocks that form the foundation of hundreds of consumer products.

Allowing sustainable production of these vital fuels and chemicals, Vertimass’ technology can dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions compared to sourcing these products from petroleum.

Vertimass’ Ethanol-to-Jet fuel and BTEX technology offers Blue Biofuels the flexibility to diversify our product slate and market renewable fuels and chemicals that have low-carbon footprints.

In addition to improving competitiveness, jet fuel and BTEX derived from ethanol can accelerate the transition to SAF and renewable chemicals.
